Paul Cairns

Artist, originally from N. Ireland but trained in London and currently working from studios in (Gatehouse Arts) Essex.
Primarily working in oils producing expressive work and utilising heavy impasto. Subject matter ranges from semi/abstract landscape to occasional portraiture. A distinguishing feature of many works is the relief effect caused by introducing wooden struts or other inclusions to raise and sometimes pierce the canvas these alternately give structure to the composition or act as a challenge to be incorporated. Painting has too often been a passive experience these works inhabit the space in a way that is more akin to sculpture. Paul has a MA in Fine art Please visit my website for up to date info on current exhibitions and projects.
